Magistrate Judge William Matthewman

United States Magistrate Judge William Matthewman was appointed to the federal bench in 2012. He sits in the West Palm Beach division of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. As a U.S. Magistrate Judge, he handles both civil and criminal cases. He often deals with e-discovery and other discovery issues in his current position with the federal judiciary. Prior to joining the bench, Judge Matthewman was a very active trial attorney who handled both criminal and civil cases. He was a board certified criminal trial attorney. He tried numerous cases in federal and state courts, including federal death penalty cases, numerous murder cases, as well as other criminal and civil cases. He is AV rated by Martindale Hubbell. He has been a member of The Florida Bar and a trial lawyer since 1983, handling numerous cases in state and federal courts. He started his career as an associate attorney at Holland and Knight in Miami, Florida, and was an associate and partner in other litigation firms, as well as a sole practitioner during his career. Before becoming an attorney, he was a police officer in Miami, Florida.

Ian M. Ross represents corporations, directors, and officers, as well as professional service and accounting firms, in commercial and securities litigation, professional liability actions, consumer class actions, and government investigations. He has experience defending public and private corporations, limited liability companies, and partnerships in federal securities claims, state securities actions, shareholder derivative suits, breach of fiduciary duty actions, and claims arising out of financial or commercial transactions. He also defends national manufacturers, retailers, and telecommunication companies in consumer class actions, including claims brought under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. His experience also includes representing clients in connection with investigations by the Securities and Exchange Commission, Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. As a member of the firm’s eDiscovery group, Ian handles and coordinates complex multijurisdictional and multinational discovery matters, including document collections, reviews, and productions

Frederick E. Owens, Jr., J.D.

Frederick E. Owens, Jr., J.D., is an electronic discovery project manager who joined Gunster in 2011. Fred has over fifteen years of experience working with attorneys and professional support staff in the areas of information technology management, electronic discovery and litigation support, both in and out of the courtroom. Fred is focused on ensuring compliance with state and federal electronic discovery rules and ESI identification and collection from clients and opposing and third parties. Fred has testified in court via declaration, affidavit or live in over eighteen matters. Fred is also involved in document review team coordination, budgeting and third party e-discovery vendor selection, as well as the management, processing and production of electronically stored data. He seeks to ensure that advanced analytics are used to expedite document review. In addition, Fred works on initiatives pertaining to trial preparation, trial support, electronic evidence presentation, creation of demonstrative aids and the deployment of courtroom technology. A member of ACEDS since 2015, he is the current sitting South Florida chapter president.

Phil Shellhaas

Phil Shellhaas, TrustPoint International’s Vice President of Legal Solutions, has more than 18 years of experience in the legal services industry. In his current role, Phil works as a strategic liaison between eDiscovery operations and client needs, to ensure project optimization and to build a robust and unique client experience under the TrustPoint brand. In his previous litigation support roles, Phil has migrated into various organizational roles, having specialized proficiency in reprographics, imaging/scanning, electronic discovery, ASP services, computer forensics, and sales management. Over the course of his career, Phil has managed, consulted, and engineered solutions for many types of large litigation and investigative matters. These include pharmaceutical, industrial, technology, construction, and FCPA matters, as well as second requests. As a result of these various roles, consultative engagements, and management positions, Phil has been able to add value to the client when managing large and complex discovery projects. His understanding of the technologies involved in the discovery process along with his general understanding of the litigations support landscape makes him best suited to engineer solutions for litigators navigating a complex matter.
