Parking Cost at Broward County Courthouse to Drop Significantly
COURTHOUSE PARKING RATE TO DROP DRAMATICALLY
South Florida Sun-Sentinel | August 19, 2014
Broward County commissioners are poised to slash parking rates at the publicly owned garage next to the Broward County Courthouse in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The current high rates have been criticized by Broward’s chief judge and public defender. The rate at Broward’s courthouse far exceeds those in Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties and private lots around it. The new prices in Broward, which require a formal County Commission vote, would be $15 flat rate from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., and $5 flat rate after 11 a.m. The move comes as parking options expand in that zone. Broward County this summer opened a new, 1,000 car garage near the courthouse on South Andrews Avenue. The garage is reserved for courthouse employees, but on evenings and weekends is expected to be open to the public.
